The Journey is Changing Direction

Hello loving Family!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me financially as I have been serving for 4 years here at YWAM Denver.

As of April, I will no longer be apart of their staff. I felt that the Lord has clearly given me a decision, and so I'm taking the one I feel is necessary for this season.

I want to share with you what I have experienced with YWAM, and it starts with remembering why I named my blog A Journey to A New Level of Trust. Though it is a mouthful. I remember back during the beginning of my first year on staff and my father encouraged me, as long with other staff here, to get a blog so I can share with supporters what God is doing. With as much as I hated writing or anything academic aside, I agreed. So I figured out the easiest blog website at the time, and blogger was the easiest because I didn't need to create an account so naming was the next step.

To be honest, I don't know why I named it this. It sounded "smart." But now after 4 years, I could see what God was doing and their has been a lot of trusting Him. I remember the first few months of being in Denver felt so difficult from the confusion of what I was doing to emotional hurt I had experienced. And God brought so much healing.

I have worked 9 schools, helped spiritually grow 22 students grow by personally spending time with after hours and been to 7 countries since I have been on staff.

But the one thing I've learned while being in Denver, is that no matter where I am at, emotionally or mentally, I can have joy. When I first prayed with my parents when I was 6 years old, I remember a word in my head and the word was joy. I never want to take away from anyone the joy that I have and I never want to take joy from anyone.

So again, thank you for everyone who has supported me financially and prayerfully. What is next, you ask?

This. Sounds. Incredible.

A missions trip In LA?! I get so excited every time I watch that video.

So for those of you who also don't know, I do have a girlfriend (picture below). Her name is Mackenzie and I staffed her DTS in 2012. She came back to do a the School of Ministry Development this past term and I really loved her music which you can check out here.

We both really feel that this is something that God is doing, and want to be apart of it.

Also, we would be able to travel through Southern California to visit friends and family.

In praying about how we are to go about this, we feel that God is calling us to not ask for the finances for it. But to watch Him provide it. Which is scary, but if God wants to do things His way, then He can.

So be praying because it will cost us around $400 just for transportation, and my loving grandparents have allowed us to stay with them but we are budgeting about $100-$200 for food, we both love Sushi so that could get expensive...

Bless you all and I hope that God shows you more of His love today!

Prayer requests: Finances for LA, and my grandpa is potentially needing open heart surgery soon peace for him and my grandmother would be wonderful, thank you.

Sincerely,

Paul Harlan

This week is a start of something promising.

As misleading as the title could have been, I'm excited to not be sick.

Hey guys, I hope you're doing well. I've been on and off the past 2 weeks with the flu and I have been trying my best to keep up with being healthy, but lo, health has deserted me...

So here's the run down of my life:

- This term at YWAM I am staffing our SSJ (School of Social Justice)
- Leading our Friday night outreach's called Kingdom Night
- Praying that God provides an idea for what is next

This has been an interesting two years. As many of you may or may not recall, I decided to join YWAM for another two years because a rebellious voice in my head said I should do it to trust God.

My two year commitment is almost coming to an end and direction has been fleeting, but I haven't give up hope yet (read title of blog)!

For my prayer supporters that's a big key to what's next, I don't know yet.

Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash
Please keep me in your prayers for quick healing, I still have a sore throat as I write this so that'd be nice to be better this week.

Prayer that I can remain focused on the guys that I am investing my life in here.

Finances for the car I received to get some work done on it (bald tires, etc.)

Continue to pursue healthy friendships as I consider what's next.

Thanks and bless you all!

Fremont for Jesus with the WISE School

Holy smokes! This week has been crazy.

So those who have followed my blogs, you may know that at the end of the WISE School we do a trip to California for Circuit Riders or 21 Project in LA. But this year we joined with YWAM Redding, as they put on an event called Fremont for Jesus.

Fremont for Jesus is an event that's goal is to bring the gospel to every house in the city. What's different about Fremont, you ask? Great question! It is one of the largest Afghany populations in the United States. If you have seen the movie kite runner, you will understand a little bit of the culture of the city because the movie is set in Fremont. I hope you understand a little of the context of this blog from that.

So, when I found out we will be handing out bibles and praying for Muslims, my heart got all sorts of nervous and excited! I had never done door to door evangelism, nor did I ever feel the desire to reach people through this sort of ministry. Honestly, it reminded me of some sort of Jehovah's Witness or Mormon outreach that would end in people just slamming doors in my face. But let me tell you about my time.

After the 11 of us made the 19 hour drive from Denver, and after staying with our team leaders family for 2 nights, we drove around San Francisco. I hadn't been to the city for a while so it was refreshing to see downtown and the Golden Gate Bridge. I'll skip the minor details, but on Tuesday afternoon we began to do our door to door evangelism. And wow, I had never experienced what happened. So many Muslims and Hindus who were open to the gospel of Jesus! It was amazing! We handed out so many bibles, and prayed for so many people it was incredible. Yes, we had a few doors shut in our face, but it did not take from the many incredible encounters that we had seen personally or had heard happen from our debrief times.

After a few afternoons of evangelism, we heard that there was a Halal (Huh - lol) Festival, which is the largest gathering of Muslims to enjoy good food, and Islamic culture. How perfect! We bought tickets and handed out free water with bibles and prayer. We had some amazing testimonies of Muslims receiving Christ from that!

Right now we are driving back from California, so pray for safety and that we would keep up this spirit of sharing the gospel with everyone! Thanks everyone!

Encourage for Encouragment

Many of us speak of God's faithfulness, like it's something out of a story. We know it, we can share biblical stories of it, but I want to share my experience with it. (This has little to do with my YWAM adventures but more of a encouragement to what God is doing in my life as a worshipper)

My musical career began at young age of 8, with piano, which I know many a Korean that would tell me that was already too late...

Anyway, at age 12 I picked up guitar and it wasn't that I fell in love with it, my mother was actually much better at guitar then I was which pushed me to get better. Then about 6 months later I asked my brother if I could play guitar for the worship times at our Junior High group. He told me, "You're not good enough to play." Now I could have been over-exagurating, but that's what was communicated to me.

So almost 10 years, I've played on multiple worship teams, and even traveled to Mexico and Panama to help lead worship. God has changed my life completely and given me a new identity, and has used my guitar playing to help lead people to a place of peace in His presence. He has blessed me with equipment. About 2 years ago, a good friend of mine called me on Sunday and told me he needed to come see me, and he proceeded to hand me his electric guitar because mine had just broken. It was a telecaster, my dream guitar. I've done a little work on it and had HUGE blessings from my closest of friends and it has become the best guitar I have ever owned.

Now I don't know why I'm sharing this completely, but I feel encouraged to say that God wants to dream with you. These dreams are not just your dreams, but I know from this experience that He really wants to bless us.

I don't need this guitar, but God wanted me to have it.

Not because it's a "nice" thing, but because it's a blessing.

Be blessed today.

Hey everyone!

I've been back in Denver for 3 weeks now, getting back into the swing of things at YWAM Denver, and I wanted to share a little video of all the cool things we got to do while in Peru! There were so many things that my team and I were able to do, we definitely felt love from the friends and family we made while in Lima.

God bless you and enjoy!

End of the year, start of a new season!

Hello everyone!

Today is such an amazing day, I just want to start off with sharing this encouragement with you all. I just received a phone call from a guy I prayed for over the summer. He called me this morning to tell me how God has been changing his life ever since that day, he started going to church more than just Wednesday and Sunday because he knew he needed it. He told me about how he has been provided for with miracles and it's just been such an amazing morning. God is SO good, and he just wants to remind us that we are loved by him.

As well with that, I am leaving in 1 week to assist an outreach to Peru! It's really exciting and I'm excited for our team. We will be in Lima, Peru for a few weeks and then heading up the coast.

I'm really blessed to help lead this group of amazing people.

Prayer points: Health while we travel, finances for students, and an extra dose of faith so that we can see the bonded set free, and the lost, found!

Bless you all,

Paul Harlan

Fall Quarter is Here!

Hey everyone it's been a LONG time since I have updated, and I know and I apologize. But I have been so blessed to have had an AMAZING vacation that happened last week.

I have been blessed to be on staff with YWAM Denver for almost 3 years now and I was able to be apart of this awesome ministry. This past week we celebrated 30 years of this campuses existence with a Royal Caribbean cruise!

It was an awesome time of traveling to Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Islands, and Cozumel, Mexico!

In Jamaica, a group of us visited blue hole which was a BEAUTIFUL fresh water spring, with waterfalls you could jump down, and yes I did enjoy jumping in...

In Cozumel, which is an island off of Cancun, a few of us rented scooters and rode around the island in about 3 hours stopping for tacos on the beach. Such an amazing once in a lifetime experience I could not have done it with out all of my amazing supporters, and YWAM Denver's help in paying a majority of the trip.

Thank you all for continuing to pray for me, we just graduated our WISE School this past quarter and they were an amazing group of people. This quarter I will be working with the Musicians DTS, a school I have not worked with in over 2 years so pray for grace, and a willing heart to let God use who I am to impact these new students! Also, I sold my phone to try and save for my upgrade. Prayer for finances to continue using it for our departments at YWAM. Thanks and bless you all!!
